Fianna - A Fantasy Fiction Novel by Susanne Carpenter

 <itunes:subtitle>In Fianna, as the newly reformed Na Fianna journey across timelines to confront enemies both mythic and modern.</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:summary>Fianna by Susanne Carpenter In 2027, following the tectonic and volcanic activity that led to the destruction of Iceland, and catastrophic earthquakes and eruptions across the northern hemisphere, the world is facing the rapid onset of a volcanic winter. The Tuath Dé Danann travel through time to help stop the effects of the ash cloud strangling the planet, and succeed in deploying the sword of light, the Claíomh Solais, with the help of the McNamara family. The Claíomh Solais, a powerful laser designed centuries into the future, is not powerful enough to dissipate the ash cloud; it will take thousands of devices to achieve the impossible. The travellers and McNamara family, who have who have joined together under the banner of the re-constituted Na Fianna, must now face an even greater challenge – the Claíomh Solais must be replicated if there is any chance that the dense ash cloud shrouding the planet can be cleared. This fast-paced adventure takes Na Fianna across Europe in the hope of finding the necessary technology to stave off disaster. The challenges of harnessing the futuristic technology are significant, even more so while facing opposition from the most powerful men on earth and defending Ireland in the face of impending invasion.</itunes:summary>

Intended to be heard as much as read, Joyce’s 628-page novel is essentially impossible to read, and yet Dublin-born Richard Harte has a remarkable knack for it, partly attributable to his two decades as a leading member of Toronto’s Anna Livia Players, who perform Joyce’s Ulysses annually. In addition to Harte’s reading for an intimate, live audience in Toronto, the film of Chapter 1 includes montages echoing themes in the novel as well as Irish-Canadian singer Kevin Kennedy’s rendition of the “Finnegan’s Wake” folk song.</itunes:summary>

Ross O'Callaghan, Paddy Smyth, Patrick Bradley

 <itunes:summary>
Ross has already taken some photos of gay and disability activist Paddy Smyth; musician Paddy Mulcahy, and a regular Paddy from Dublin, 68 year old Paddy Byrne.Ross is photographing men named Paddy, Pat and Patrick from all walks of life for a stunning collection of portraits that capture what it’s like to be Irish and male in contemporary Ireland. The aim is to challenge the stereotype of a ‘Paddy Irishman’ and showcase the diversity of Ireland and the Irish male at an Exhibition of Paddy Portraits in New York on St Patrick’s Day 2022.Ross, or ‘Rosco’, who is best known as Hector's right-hand man behind the lens and who worked with U2 in his early career, has filmed in over one hundred countries, on all continents, making commercials, documentaries, sports, reality and lifestyle programming for RTE, TG4, BBC, UTV, Channel 4, NBC, SKY, HBO and MTV, amassing many awards along the way. On his travels, Ross says he has lost count of the times that he’s been called Paddy, which he feels is something many Irish men will relate to, and this provided some of the inspiration behind his project. Ross is now recruiting Paddies interested in getting involved. “This is a study of Irish men called Paddy from all walks of life through the medium of portrait photography. I want to tell the story of Ireland’s oldest and youngest Paddy, of Paddy the farmer, the celebrity, the binman, the Paddy from abroad who has settled in Ireland or who has an ethnic heritage and identity. I want Paddy the activist as well as Paddy in prison, the traveller, the diplomat, the local legend and – if we can find him – Paddy the Drag Queen. It could also be Paddy Irish Man who’s now Paddy Scotsman – someone born in Ireland who is now living abroad.”
</itunes:summary>

Irish Canadian Politics after the Rising

 <itunes:subtitle>Garth Stevenson - Irish Canadian Politics after the Rising</itunes:subtitle>
 <itunes:summary>
Garth Stevenson: Irish-Canadian Politics after the Rising Irish Republicanism in Canada declined rapidly after the 1860s, in part because Irish immigration to Canada declined and many with republican sympathies left Canada for the United States. After 1914 most Canadians, including Irish Catholic Canadians, supported participation in the war. Hence the initial response to Easter 1916 was hostile, even among pro-Irish Canadians like Wilfrid Laurier. However the executions after the Rising led to a sudden change in opinion in Canada. After 1916 and continuing until the Anglo-Irish treaty in 1921, Irish Republican politics revived in Canada, particularly in Montreal. Activists like Katherine Hughes and John Loye and organizations like the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Friends of Irish Freedom, and the Self-Determination for Ireland League helped to keep it alive and kept contact with Irish republicans in Ireland and the United States. However, when the Irish civil war started in 1922, most of the activists in Canada supported the pro-treaty side and republicanism declined.
</itunes:summary>
