Ireland Canada Business Association - Canada’s response to Covid 19

The Ireland Canada Business Association Webinar:- Sabine Nölke ,Chargée d’ Affaires and Suzanne Drisdelle, Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy give an overview of how the Government of Canada has acted to minimise the impact of Covid 19 on both the economy and people of Canada.

Ireland's Consul General to Vancouver, Frank Flood and John Boylan, Deputy Head of Mission, Irish Embassy Canada, Ottawa share their comments on the webinar.

Frank Flood served as Ireland's Ambassador to Estonia, before taking up position in Vancouver. He has significant experience in working to promote peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland, overseas development aid and the promotion of bilateral trade, on two assignments in Belfast, worked overseas with the United Nations Development Programme in Addis Ababa and served as Vice Consul in the Consulate General in Boston. Frank has a science and teaching background and is married with three children and one grandchild. His wife Órla Ní Bhróithe will be accompanying him on his assignment in Vancouver.

John Boylan joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 2018 having previously serve over 12 years as an Army Officer in the Irish Defence Forces from 2001-2014, followed by three years working with Greenpeace Australia Pacific in Sydney.

Moving from the more hands-on experience of the Army to contributing to the formulation of foreign policy on international security and defence issues has given John a particular appreciation of the implications our strategic policy decisions have for our Defence Forces personnel on the ground. Having good contacts is an essential component of being effective in this job.

His experience working with Greenpeace is also
noteworthy, given an appreciation for understanding where civil society organisations
are coming from when it comes to discussions on security and defence matters. In developing
Ireland’s foreign policy, there is a responsibility to see things from a variety of perspectives before making those important policy decisions.
