Ottawa Gaels Named 2018 Overseas Club of the Year


The Ottawa Gaels are the winners of the Irish News Overseas Club of the Year for 2018. Each year, the Irish News GAA Awards recognize club, school and volunteers initiatives that make a difference in their community across four categories of awards. The awards program has operated for sixteen years and the Overseas Club of Year award was added four years ago. This year’s awards luncheon and ceremony was held May 25th, 2018 at the Wellington Park Hotel in Belfast where there were close to 100 school and club representatives in attendance. Our own PRO Kerry Mortimer was honoured to attend the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of our club. There were several special guests in attendance including the Chairman of the Irish News, Jim Fitzpatrick, St Mary’s College University Principal, Peter Finn and former Tyrone GAA star Conor Gormley. Also present were several representatives from the event sponsors that included the Irish News, Ulster GAA, O’Neill’s and Volunteer Now.
